Jolly Good Beer is a wholesaler of drinks to on-trade and off-trade customers – off-licenses, shops, bars, and pubs. We predominantly sell excellent “craft beer” – a fuzzy term, but to us it’s primarily about independence & ethos – but also other drinks products and related items. We have a warehouse in Upwell, which is just inside Norfolk on the border with Cambridgeshire. One of our key focuses is product quality – so our beer stock is all kept properly coldstored at this site and we’re in the process of upgrading our vehicle fleet to all chilled vehicles. We’re a relatively small business – currently consisting of 14 people in various roles, but expecting this to be approaching 20 by the end of 2021. JGB has been trading since April 2014, we have survived COVID-19, and are firmly returning to our previous growth path. (Half this team is located remotely from Upwell, with only warehouse and logistics staff and the business owner working out of the Upwell location.)

In this role you will report to the Warehouse Manager – who will train you in our systems and processes. We require no specific former experience – but a clean driving license is important (no points, no insurance claims – in the last 5 years) as all warehouse staff need to be able to do vehicle runs if required. Experience with a forklift, and forklift cert, is an advantage too. Experience in a warehouse environment organising and picking varied stock for delivery is also advantageous.

The hands-on side of this job involves handling stock in keg and boxed formats – checking in stock from incoming deliveries and picking stock for outgoing deliveries. Much of this work is carried out in a coldstore environment. Basic PPE is required for this work – and will be provided by the business. The other side of this role is desk-based and comfort working on computers is needed here – this work involves monitoring customer orders, preparing picking paperwork for deliveries, and other inventory management work. Good communication skills are key in this role – you’ll need to discuss delivery routing and loads with drivers, and also keep the wider team informed and interact with our distributed administrative team. We make extensive use of online communications tools for discussion and organisation – using computer and phone apps.

For this role it is more important you’re the right person for our team, than that you have any specific prior experience or skills. Future career progression in this role is towards general warehouse and/or inventory management as the business grows.

We are, of course, an equal-opportunity workplace and believe strongly in this and in pro-actively being part of an inclusive and accepting society.

Other benefits of working for JGB include:

  • an additional day holiday per year worked at JGB up to 33 days
(leave allowance starts at the statutory 28 days inclusive of bank holidays)
  • annual review includes guaranteed RPI indexation of salary
  • role-relevant training will be provided, with an aim of supporting career progression
  • beer – if you’re into it – all employees are part of our tasting and QA panel
  • and, once COVID is behind us, we look forward to once again having:
    • annual all-hands meeting followed by dinner and drinks
    • annual JGB BBQ

If you’re interested in this role please send us an email introducing yourself, summarising your working background or with CV, and with any questions you may have – to: jobs@jollygoodbeer.co.uk

We will accept applications submitted by email until Friday 30th July and arrange initial screening meetings either on-site or via Google Meet or Zoom with an aim of hiring someone to commence work in August.

Thanks,
Yvan Seth
