Job: Drayperson – Sevenoaks/Kent

Qualifications: Clean License – forklift cert is an advantage

Pay: £11.00 – £12.00 p/h – paid monthly

Hours: This is a part-time role guaranteeing pay for on average 22.5+ hours of work per week (3/5 time) with additional hours paid at full rate. Initially this would likely be Tues/Weds/Thur with a fairly reliable schedule confirmed at the start of each week by the logistics manager. There is some flexibility as you’ll be sharing the workload with our existing Kent-based driver. As business grows there will be opportunity to expand this to more hours and up to full-time as the hospitality industry continues to recover from the impact of COVID-19 – in the longer term there will be the opportunity to progress to a regional logistics manager role, or possibly even shift towards a sales and account management role.

Location: Operating out of a site in Sevenoaks TN14 5EL – this is likely to change by the end of 2022 but will remain in the Kent/M25 area or shift more into London.

About the job:

Jolly Good Beer is a small independent wholesale distributor of beer and associated products, our suppliers are mainly independent British brewers who produce a huge variety of different beers – which we work with in all formats – cask/keg/can/bottle. We also stock associated drinks products from independent cider producers, distilleries, and others. Currently our team is 17 people with 7 warehouse/driver staff based out of Upwell, one employee covering sales & driving out of Kent, and a sales & admin team distributed across the country.

We want to hire an additional driver operating out of the Kent area to cover the South East and London.

Delivery routes are typically multi-drop into pubs/bars/shops and require unloading cases of cans and bottles and kegs/casks. We operate a full “dray” service with beer delivered to cellar – so some familiarity with cellars is also an advantage. Vans are equipped with cellar ropes and crash pads. This can be an intensive manual handling job at times with some heavy lifting difficult to avoid. We provide equipment for the job and of course cover all required PPE.

Some collections and incoming deliveries can be pallet based, and for this having a forklift cert is an advantage – but training can be provided if needed.

This is a normally employed role with all standard employment benefits. You will have at least 22.5 hours per week. Paid annual leave of 28 days (inclusive of bank holidays, which we usually do not operate on) pro-rata to hours worked, and discretionary full sick pay.

We are a very IT-driven business making extensive use of online communications tools and systems. So some comfort with using apps for “chat” and computer systems in general is an advantage. This is all fairly easy to pick up as you go.

Other job benefits include:

  • Guaranteed RPI-linked minimum annual pay rises in October.
  • Additional annual leave of 1 day per year at JGB (max 5 added days)
  • Annual BBQ at Upwell and annual JGB-meeting with night out (usually in Cambridge or Peterborough, transit and accommodation covered where needed). [To resume once COVID measures have concluded.]
  • Regular “know the product” beers to take home. (Optional, you do not have to be “into craft beer” for the job – or even drink it – but as you are often dealing with customers it can help to understand the product – our drivers are a key customer-facing component of the business.)

Applications are being taken until Friday 21st January, interviews will be arranged between application time and the 27th August with an aim to have a new hire starting in September.

COVID-19 considerations:
We continue to have a Risk-Assessment based COVID-Safe working policy in place, requiring masks for customer-site access and keeping aware with respect to distancing and dealing with other members of the team.
