Anspach & Hobday — Ordinary Bitter Smooth (Nitro)
Smooth (Nitro*) Bitter
*Caution, can you pour this? Ask our sales team if you are unsure) A modern interpretation of a classic Ordinary bitter, more colour but the same lightness in body and immeasurable drink-ability. All that was needed to complete the beer was to perfectly balance the malt and sweetness with hop bitterness and aroma.
For me there was only one option for bittering and late hopping with a cheeky New World twist to help the aroma. The level was set with East Kent Goldings, providing mellow bitterness but enough to get the IBUs to the desired amount. A late addition of EKG for that fruit cake character. The New World twist comes in the way of throwing in a liberal amount of Chinook during the whirpool. Adding an extra dimension of spice and pine resin.
The original session beer, Ordinary Bitters formed a cornerstone of English drinking culture. Perfectly balanced between malt sweetness and hop bitterness, our interpretation is brought up to date with the use of US Chinook hops. Delicate hop aromas of pine, spice and dark fruits are followed by a smooth, full bodied palate with notes of biscuit and caramel. Brewed with EKG and Chinook
