A dark & seasonal Old Ale made from the second running’s of Stoutzilla & enriched with sweet black
treacle. The result is a pleasingly complex dark ale, with plenty of roast character and sweet dark molasses.
Soft and full-bodied, with hints of dried fruits and dates. Rich, dark and warming.
The traditional Parti-gyle brewing method is a great technique for making more than one beer from
running’s of a single mash. Taking the high sugars needed from the first mash, then adding more
brewing water to extract the residual sugars. We use the residual sugars to create a second scaled
down and lower ABV beer. As Stoutzilla is such a huge beer, the ABV in this Old Ale is on the higher
end of the scale.
This age-old technique was a first for us, taking the opportunity to utilise Stoutzilla’s vast and
flavourful mash creating this historic style. The ability to minimise waste while creating another beer
in the process was an important factor too, helping us to take steps to becoming a more sustainable
brewery.
This Old Ale with the essence of Stoutzilla running through it is perfect to enjoy in the winter months
in your favourite pub by a roaring, warm fire. A Pie to go with it optional
